What are Guest Posts?
Well, this isn't one of those technical terms that only geeks can understand. It's simple – guest posts are articles that one person writes for a blog/website that he/she doesn't own.
People usually decide to write guest posts in order to reach more audiences and to present their persona or business to people who pay a visit to a particular website. By providing a high-quality article, the owners of other blogs get free (and hopefully high-quality) content from you, and you get exposure to the new audience. It's a win-win situation.
Is Guest Posting Good for SEO?
While guest posting is definitely a great content marketing practice that allows you to get to the audience that was before out of your reach, it also has an impact on SEO. So, yes, guest posts can help you optimize your website for search engines, and it can help raise your Domain Authority score which tells Google and other search engines that your site is more important than the other sites (with lower Domain Authority regarding given keyword).
However, over the years, this tactic has become abused so many times that even Google has had to change rules. While we can't tell you how many links or guest posts you can or can't publish, we can tell you that guest posting still plays a significant role in SEO.
If the content provides valuable relevant information that can help and educate readers, it can be considered a high-quality article that would be an excellent thing for your SEO efforts.
How to Find Sites That Accept Guest Posts
OK, so guest posting sounds good. And you would like to contribute your article to other sites that will help you get the word out. But do you know how to find those sites that might accept your guest post? There are several ways of getting a chance to write on other blogs.
Search on Google
A simple search on Google or other search engines will probably result in tons of websites that accept guest posts. While you can easily search for terms like “sites that accept guest posts”, there is also a more direct way that will get you targeted results.
So, to get better results, we suggest searching for specific keywords. But instead, a simple search put the keywords under the quotes. For example, if you are looking for travel-related websites that accept guest authors, you could search for something like this:
- “travel” “guest posts”
- “travel” “write for us”
- “travel blog” “guest posting”
- “travel blog” “contribute”
- inurl:”travel” “contributor”
These simple queries should result in blogs about traveling that accept guest posts. If you want to learn more advanced Google search to improve your results, please see how to refine web searches.
Search on Twitter
Similarly to searching on Google, you can search Twitter for the latest tweets that contain specific keywords you are interested in. What's great about this technique is that you can search only fresh tweets about specific guest posts. What you're going to get is actually tweets of guest posts published on specific sites. And the logic here is that if you have found one guest post, the chance is you might be able to guest post on the site as well.
Let us show you an example. Let's search for guest posts about web design:
- Open Twitter & log in to your account
- Go to this page: https://twitter.com/search-advanced
- Add “guest post” in the “All of these words” field
- Write “web design” in the “This exact phrase” field
- Select dates to search only for tweets in the last month or the last few months
- Click search
This advanced search will bring you only the relevant results, so you will be able to find tweets about guest posts related to design. Just look at the screenshot – in one search, we immediately saw a tweet that offers free guest posts on a web design-related website! In other, we found interesting guest posts about using colors in web design and a list of websites that will pay you to guest post. And those are just two tweets found in the first five results.
Connect with People
If you are a full-time blogger or marketer, you should have already started connecting with people. Having a network of like-minded men & women who work on the same thing as you can help both of you, and there are many benefits to it. But we will not talk about them here; what we wanted to point out is that you can get an opportunity to post a guest article more easily if you know the owner of the blog. Even if that means that you exchange a few comments on other sites, groups, or social media. So, simply ask your contacts if they're interested in they would like to publish an article from you.

Check out our List of More Than 5,000+ Blogs That Accept Guest posting
If you want to get serious about guest posting, you shouldn't skip our list of 5,000+ websites that accept guest posts. Find the categories you would like to write about, check Domain Authority of each site (the higher Domain Authority, the higher impact on SEO you get) and other details, and contact the admins to see if they will get you an opportunity to write for them.
How to decide where to send your post
Now that we have introduced you to a few techniques of finding sites that accept guest posts, you should have hundreds of websites that might be really interesting to you.
Your goal shouldn't be posting to as many sites as possible. Having a couple of high-quality articles on relevant websites will mean much more than spamming the web with hundreds of low-quality posts published on blogs that no one reads.
So, how do you decide where to pitch your guest post idea?
Start with smaller sites
Although there are many well-known websites with really high DA numbers in your niche that do accept guest posts, if you're just starting out, we suggest that you skip the big names in your early beginnings. The greater the site, the greater the number of people interested in it. So, it's just normal that popular sites get tons of emails asking about guest posts, and it's really hard to get accepted. So, before pitching ideas to those blogs, you should start with smaller ones that will be more likely to accept your guest article and that would allow you to sharpen your game.
Choose High-authority Sites
Try to find sites with an authoritative link profile. You can use different online tools to check domains and to find out how the specific website ranks on the internet. One of the most popular metrics is DA (Domain Authority) developed by Moz. Checking the website for DA is easy – the higher DA number, the better chances are that the website ranks on Google. A high number usually means that the specific website has a higher number of links. Moz has created a free Chrome extension that will ease up the entire process of checking domains.
Choose Sites in Your Niche
Obviously, you should search for websites that are in your niche. Neither you or the website owner wants a post about food on their technology blog, right? So make sure the blog is related to what you're writing about. This will result in better user experience and a chance in getting your guest post to people who will actually read it.
Don't Look for PBN Sites
Private Blog Networks (PBN) have hundreds or even thousands of websites under one wing. The whole purpose of a PBN is to quickly (and cheaply) get hundreds (or thousands) of links to one domain which allows you to fabricate the SEO results. As you might have guessed, this isn't approved by Google and other search engines, and having those links might get you a penalty and a completely different result than you wanted.
Luckily, PBN websites are usually easy to recognize. Since the owners don't have time to work on each individual site, those hundreds of websites always look the same – you will see the same design (same outdated WordPress theme in most cases), the same icons, and menu elements. More often than not, you will be able to spot the same favicons on those sites as well. Another clear indication is social media icons that point nowhere. Why? Well, people who run those networks simply don't have time to create & maintain social media accounts for each of their websites.
What (not) to do After Finding a Site that Accepts Guest Posts?
Although there are literally millions of websites that accept guest posts, that doesn't mean that all of them will gladly have you as the contributor. Guest posting has become popular, and website owners that accept submissions have become swamped with requests.
If you have browsed other guides, you have probably seen that many suggested templates that promise you success. Stop here! Do not use templates when contacting admins about guest posts!
Let us explain why. As owners of multiple blogs, we have had our share in accepting guest posts. The first day we announced that we accept guest posts, not many people reacted – we were just a new blog that nobody had an interest in, and our blog wasn't that much of a big deal. But, day after a day, the blog grew, and requests started to flow to our inbox. Sooner than we expected, we started receiving a couple of guest posts request per day.
And guess what – every second request that we have received is practically the same! As soon as we open a new guest posting request, we can see if the person used one of the templates. And that looks bad – instead of seeing a nicely written request, all we see is a person who just copied & pasted an email which he/she probably sent out to thousands of websites at the same time. Sometimes, individuals even forget to change the placeholders in the template so the email starts with something like “Dear [name]”. Yes, it's actually spam, and we are sure that there are a lot of more blog owners who frown upon this as much as we do!
So, when it comes to us, no matter what you do – do not use templates. Write a personal email, and show that you care about the site & the admin that you're talking to. You will probably get picked out of the hundreds of the same emails sent by others.
Instead of using templates, just find the guest posting guidelines on the site, read them carefully, and contact the admins by asking them if they would be interested in your contribution. Use your normal words, and make sure that you type that email.
Don't Bother People Who Don't Accept Guest Posts
Unfortunately for you, not everyone likes guest posting. There are actually many people who are strongly against it – for personal or SEO or any other reasons (they simply don't want contributors to the blog they put so much effort in). And you should respect that.
So, while browsing other websites, pay attention to what people put on their contact pages. Many of them will clearly note that they do not accept guest posts. Save yourself & the owner some time, and simply skip the request.
Your Idea is Accepted, Congrats! Now what?
Sooner or later, a blog owner will accept your pitch. That's great! Now you should start working on the article itself.
Before even opening an empty document, you should check the guest post guidelines conducted by the owner. The guidelines might have been available on the website or the admin might have sent you the guidelines in a reply to your original email. It doesn't matter; just make sure you read the guidelines thoroughly and make sure you understood everything. Don't hesitate to ask the owner is something isn't clear – this will both help you write a better piece and it will show the owner that you actually do care about the guest post. Don't try to play around the guidelines – if you need three images and you're asked to add them in the document, do it so, please.
Check your spelling, grammar, and never try to steal or copy an article from someone else. To ensure that your content is fresh, with appropriate grammar, punctuation, and style, it's always a good idea to have a software like Linguix to serve as a safety net with no room left for error. Serious blog owners have all the necessary tools in their belts, and they will quickly notice something's wrong. You will lose the chance to publish anything on that blog ever again, and you will lose credibility.
We hope you're into guest posting for all the right reasons so there won't be any problems. Your article has been published, and hopefully, you had a chance to include a link or two back to your site which will help bring more visitors and improve the SEO of your site. But you're still not done with the guest post.
Stay Active
Once the post has been published, you should stay active. That means regularly checking for comments, and responding to them. You should also help the owner with social media exposure, so share the post on your own social media channels. Just like with the comments, always respond to notes and make sure people see that you're active.
All of this will help you bring in more views, and get you more exposure – whether you're looking for customers or more guest post opportunities.
